Why you shouldn't solely focus on negative survey results

Conducting employee surveys is an incredibly insightful method to understand what is important to your people. At the same time, it’s also very easy to put a microscope over the negative employee feedback received, and primarily focus on how this can be actioned first. Whilst it’s imperative that negative feedback is not ignored, but addressed and actioned in good time, it’s also important to pay close attention to the positive survey results received for the following reasons:

 

Recognition

Showing that you both hear and are listening to your employees, as well as acting on this, is vital when aiming to build a strong workforce that feels valued. We advise that you give thanks to your people for taking the time out of their day to provide their honest feedback, and for also highlighting what you as a business are doing well so that this can continue.

Benchmarking

Using the metrics from your employee satisfaction surveys, you can then compare this data with other industry-specific data to gain a good understanding of how you are performing against similar organisations. Then from this, you can look to improve upon these metrics to gain a better competitive advantage.

Building morale

If your employee survey results are positive, it’s key to share these results among your workforce to emphasise the strong culture that’s been built. Positive energy is infectious, especially if it is relayed among teams, in-turn making your workforce more engaged, motivated, and efficient. Focusing too much on your negative survey results will only do the opposite.

Attracting and retaining talent

So, where should you start? Firstly, ensure that you are asking the right questions in your survey/s that allow for positive responses.
